Audioholics covers the 2009 CES like no one else. Direct from Vegas we bring you news of new products, daily podcasts and more. If it's new, it's here. And if it's here, we're telling you all about it and showing it to you.

Denon DBP-4010UDCI Universal Blu-ray Disc Player First Look

The DBP-4010UDCI isn't cheap unless all you have to compare it to are the top of the line Denon, Marantz or Lexicon players. Still, for the added money, you are getting top of the line components, cutting edge technology, and the piece of mind that you could have spent thousands more. While we don't expect the DBP-4010UDCI to fly off the shelves at this price point, for the user that has to have (almost) everything, this is the player for them.

When you put out a $4500 Blu-ray player and then next one in your line retails for $800, you need something in between. While the $2000 price tag for the DBP-4010UDCI isn't cheap, it is high end.

Eggleston Works Andra III

Eggleston Works Andra III

Eggleston Works Andra III, a floor standing 3-way loudspeaker with compound loaded 12 inch woofers rated at -3db to 18 hz! The bass response of this system was tight, solid, and definitely impressive. At almost $24k/pair, this system was by no means cheap, but it offered some of the best sound I heard at the show.

Maxxhorn Audio - Illumination Speaker

Maxxhorn Audio - Illumination Speaker

I do not often find myself saying “this is an amazing speaker”, but this is an amazing speaker! The Maxxhorn uses a 5 inch driver to make low frequencies that such loudspeakers do not make without a huge horn attached to them. The Maxxhorn does use a horn, but it is folded and completely behind the forward facing driver allowing it to reach the extremely high frequencies a folded horn would by its nature eliminate.

Gemme Audio – Phenix Green Gem Loudspeaker System

The Phenix Green Gem LS is a 3 piece handcrafted satellite subwoofer system. It uses two 15 inch diameter drivers, looking very much like the JBL 2226, in a large cabinet 12 cubic feet. The satellites use a 6 inch driver definitely optimized for the midrange and what appears much like a Fostex Horn Tweeter. This system is characterized by extremely high sensitivity (100db 1w/1m) and very low distortion.

Isophon Arabba Loudspeaker

Isophon Arabba Loudspeaker

The Isophon Arabba Loudspeaker was shown with Marcassa Ebony and Ceramic Accuton Drivers. At the booth was a German Professor of Physics named Roland Galdo who spent an hour explaining to me the process of design that went into the Arabba. Having access to a Cray Supercomputer at Stuttgart University in Germany where he is a professor, Roland modeled the drivers measured data, the enclosure and the crossover network. According to him this required 32 simultaneous mathematical equations to solve with 800 unknown variables. The sound was impressive, indeed perhaps flawless and the cabinet as beautifully crafted as it was meticulously designed.

The Lafluer Audio X2 speaker employs two 5 inch ScanSpeak mid-bass drivers and a 1 inch soft dome ScanSpeak Tweeter. The cabinet is made of “wild Russian Cherry wood” and is “Shaped with exponential curves. This is to say it is sleak and beautiful, composed of a shape both pleasing to behold and naturally favorable to a smooth frequency response.
