Axiom Audio EP400 Subwoofer First Look

Axiom Audio EP400 Subwoofer First Look

At the Audioholics 9th Annual State of the CE Union Event, Axiom Audio introduced and demoed their newest member of the DSP subwoofer family. The compact high performance EP400 subwoofer delivers bass extension as deep as 17 Hz in smaller rooms such as dens or bedrooms, using a much smaller enclosure than a conventional subwoofer. Axiom proved in their demonstration at our 9th Annual State of the CE Union Show that this little sub can certainly hit the low notes with aplomb.

Velodyne SC-IW In-Wall Subwoofer System Review

Velodyne SC-IW In-Wall Subwoofer System Review

Overall, the SC-IW subwoofers performed well beyond my expectations and erased any preconceived notion that I had about in-wall subwoofers. It rivalled the performance of many good 10-12-inch freestanding box subwoofers making it the best in-wall subwoofer system I have heard or installed to date. I highly recommend the SC-IW subwoofer and SC-1250 amplifier to home owners, custom installers, and designers that wish to maintain the minimalist design trend without performance sacrifice. –Bravo Velodyne!

HSU Research VTF-1 Subwoofer Review

HSU Research VTF-1 Subwoofer Review

The Hsu Research VTF-1 has proven to be a solid performer that, relative to its price point, does most everything well with very little wrong. I found it to be both musical and responsive to the source material I threw at it while still capable of very respectable output levels. Sonically, the VTF-1 is similar to the STF-1, retaining the best qualities while making sonic improvements with key differences consisting of the larger driver, an increase in amplifier power, and the ability to play lower. The end result is that the VTF-1 sounds like a heftier sub, sonically, than the STF-1 with a similar price to performance ratio. If you are in the market for a high value subwoofer then Hsu should be on the list of products to investigate; the VTF-1 is a good sub that is hard to beat at the price.

Axiom Audio EP500 Subwoofer Review

Axiom Audio EP500 Subwoofer Review

The Axiom EP500 is features a 12" aluminum cone woofer and 500 watt class D amplifier. On my reference subs the bass was authorative and well-tempered, but with the Axiom EP500 thrown in the mix, slam and "felt" response was elevated to a new level. There were times I felt as if someone had installed tactile transducers under my couch and I actually had to convince myself otherwise. No matter what movie or music disc I threw at the EP500, it provided a newfound sense of realism and enjoyment that I didn’t even know was missing.

Sonic Immersion Technologies I Beam VT300 Transducer

There are many very good and effective tactile transducers on the market today. Dayton Audio T1503 Titanic Mk III Subwoofer Kit Review

Dayton Audio T1503 Titanic Mk III Subwoofer Kit Review

The Titanic T1503 MK III kit is a good smart design that is very easy to put together. I could really crank up the volume on this sub without the same fear that I have with my current subwoofers or other vented systems of bottoming out or overstressing. For under $750, you get a 15 inch subwoofer in a small cabinet, a 1000 watt amplifier and very good performance. For any handyman searching for a great sub at a great price, you should take a hard look at the Dayton Titanic MK III.

JL Audio Fathom f110 Subwoofer Review

JL Audio Fathom f110 Subwoofer Review

The JL Audio Fathom f110 may be small in size, but its not lacking in the performance department. While there are certainly much larger subs from other brands at the same price or less, you will be hard pressed to find all of the performance attributes the f110 has to offer in such a compact box. Not once did I find the f110s output lacking as they were always able to rattle my walls and shake my couches when the source material required it. It’s clear to me that JL Audio is as serious about high fidelity in the home environment as they have been in mobile audio since their inception. Bassaholics rejoice as JL Audio has produced a reference level product that will thump, and thump well, without requiring a refrigerator sized box that you neither have the space nor the accepting wife to accommodate.

Velodyne Impact-10 Subwoofer Review

Velodyne Impact-10 Subwoofer Review

The Velodyne Impact-10 has a front-firing 10-inch long throw woofer powered by a 150-watt Class-D amplifier. It is priced at just $299 and has a frequency response that goes all the way down to around 32Hz. That's pretty low, and very respectable for a subwoofer that costs about the same as an iPod. Velodyne has got to be one of the most recognizable names in subwoofers, and for a long time they priced themselves for discerning consumers who took their bass seriously. Well apparently anyone can now bring low frequency slam into their living room because Velodyne has dropped the cost of entry once more with the new Impact-10 subwoofer.

Rythmik Audio F25 Direct Servo Subwoofer First Look

Rythmik Audio F25 Direct Servo Subwoofer First Look

The Rythmik Audio F25 claims a frequency response down to 14Hz at just -2dB. That's pretty impressive (heck that's REALLY impressive). They do this through a combination of a tall, heavy box, huge drivers and technology. Servo technology to be specific. We're shocked to report that the Rythmik Audio F25 is only going to cost you $1300. While that may seem like a chunk of change to some, we DARE you to find a sub that claims the features and extension (much less servo) at anywhere close to that price. That's just crazy. It's so crazy, we just might buy two.
