Aperion Audio SLIMstage30 Soundbar Review

Aperion Audio SLIMstage30 Soundbar Review

There are plenty of people out there that just want a small solution. They don't have the room or the desire to set up a full system but they still want a surround sound like experience. Soundmatters has paired with Aperion Audio to bring you the SLIMstage30/Bravus 8A combo. The sound quality of the SLIMstage30, especially for movies, is impressive and will probably have you shaking your head in disbelief. The Bravus 8A sub is powerful and capable and the bass response of the SLIMstage30 means that the two will mate well.

Panasonic SC-HTB10 Sound Bar First Look

Panasonic SC-HTB10 Sound Bar First Look

Panasonic today announced that its first surround bar home theater speaker system would be spearheaded by the SC-HTB10 starting this summer. The sound bar is designed to fit neatly in front of a flat panel TV and offer an easy to install, stylish alternative to a full 5.1 home theater sound system. The SC-HTB10 soundbar is equipped with a single HDMI 1.4 input, which is compatible with the new 3D video standard from a connected Blu-ray 3D player. It doesn't do any processing of the 3D signal, but rather passes it unmolested through the system and onto the display. A single HDMI 1.4 output is available which includes the new HDMI 1.4 audio return channel. This means that the SC-HTB10 can decode digital audio sent from a compatible television making use of the ARC function.

ZVOX IncrediBase575 Surround Bar Review

ZVOX IncrediBase575 Surround Bar Review

The ZVOX takes a very different tack from other surroundbar offerings. While others are looking for small, plastic enclosures that are really meant to be mounted to a wall, the ZVOX IncrediBase575 is much, much larger. Meant to be placed under a display, the575 is large, constructed out of MDF, and, oh yeah, sports integrated subs. Different? You bet.

Polk Audio Wireless Surround F/X Rear Speaker First Look

Polk Audio Wireless Surround F/X Rear Speaker First Look

The Wireless Surround F/X builds on the SurroundBar technology Polk has be using for years but puts it in the back of the room. We are very intrigued with the Polk Audio Wireless Surround F/X rear speaker. With four 2.5" drivers, a 5.25" woofer, small transceiver that connects to a transmitter that is connected to your receiver's surround channels, powered by a multichannel digital amplifier, and a switch to indicate placement (and adjust the DSP) of the speaker - floor, table, or shelf, Polk looks to have a winner on its hands with this one.

Boston Acoustics TVee Model 20 First Look

Boston Acoustics TVee Model 20 First Look

Boston Acoustics is offering an incremental upgrade to their TVee Model 2 with the TVee Model 20. This new model has upgraded drivers but most importantly sports a lower price. Now that's what we call an upgrade! The system was different from what others were trying to bring to market. At the time (as now) surroundbars were all the rage. Everyone was trying to push out pseudo-surround using multiple drivers bouncing sound around a room or by using digital signal processing (DSP). While these often sounded good to consumers, what didn't was the price. Sticker shock was a huge problem. Sure, you want surround but if you are going to pay all that money, why not get the real thing?

How compact can Home Theaters in a Box (HTiBs) get? Yamaha is pushing those limits with the new YHT-S400 Soundbar, receiver, and subwoofer solution. Yamaha has combined its thinnest soundbar with a combo receiver/subwoofer. That's right a receiver and subwoofer in one box.

Focus Enhancements, Inc., a leading supplier of wireless audio technologies debuted their wireless home theater surround sound products utilizing their Summit wireless technology system with a complete Aperion Audio Intimus 5 series 7.1 speaker package at the CEDIA 2009 expo show. Paradigm Reference Signature Series V.3 - First Look

Paradigm Reference Signature Series V.3 - First Look

Ribbed. It’s not just for her pleasure anymore. Paradigm has carried this ribbed/corrugated butyl rubber surround theme into their entire Signature product line for a claimed 3dB more efficiency and higher output over its predecessors. The re-vamp of their acclaimed Reference Signature series piqued my interest into soliciting a review of the S2s after the 2009 CEDIA show. We’ve always been impressed with the quality of Paradigm speakers so we are confident these won’t disappoint.

Paradigm unveiled a 3rd version of its flagship Reference Signature Series which are claimed to be the highest output, most dynamic high end loudspeakers ever produced.

RBH Sound SI-663 & SI-744 In-Wall Speakers - First Look

RBH Sound SI-663 & SI-744 In-Wall Speakers - First Look

These new in-wall products (SI-663 and SI-744; respectively) displayed by RBH Sound at CEDIA 2009 are prime examples of thinking outside the box. We appreciate the flexibility these products offer for both the custom installer and the end user alike. It’s nice to see products that allow for a full multi channel experience while eliminating some of the speaker locations traditionally required in achieving it. We welcome feedback from installers on how these systems sound when integrated into a full theater application since it’s often impractical for review publications to review in-wall products.

JBL Performance LS Series Loudspeakers First Look

JBL Performance LS Series Loudspeakers First Look

It’s nice to see JBL return to their heritage with the LS Performance Series of loudspeakers and offer a product line built of higher quality materials than their offerings at local department stores. I can’t help to still have an affinity towards vintage JBL speakers. Their product rep claims the LS series is modeled off their Synthesis series used for professional audio applications and movie theaters. We will keep our eye on these speakers and hopefully in the near future we can also put our ears to them as well.
