SnapAV Episode 900 Series In-Wall Loudspeakers First Look

SnapAV Episode 900 Series In-Wall Loudspeakers First Look

Are the new SnapAV Episode 900 speakers designed for the custom installation market? You bet. But we love seeing features such as overbuilt back boxes, separate EQ adjustments for bass, mids, and the tweeter with a compensation for perforated drop screens, and ribbon tweeters. The EX-HT900-ISLCR-6 is a little too wide for horizontal placement without cutting in to a couple of studs but other than that, we love how both this and the ES-HT950-IW-7 look on paper. But, as is often the case with in-wall speakers, only you'll know how cool they are. Everyone else will wonder where that sound is coming from.

Klipsch AudioRock Outdoor Speaker First Look

Klipsch AudioRock Outdoor Speaker First Look

True wireless outdoor solutions like the Klispch AudioRock add-on for the LightSpeaker system are rare and always impressive. Since the AudioRock is an add-on to the LightSpeaker system you'll have to fork over $600 before you can shell out $200 more for the AudioRock. They are rated down to 65Hz with dual 0.75-inch polypropylene tweeters mated with a 5.25-inch injection molded polypropylene woofer. All the drivers are angled 20 degrees up to account for the inevitable ground placement. The AudioRock is constructed out of a UV-protected, weatherproof, and rustproof plastic with a gray faux-granite finish. The speaker is designed to withstand the elements (and sprinklers) as long as it is not submerged in water or left to sit in more than an inch of water.

SpeakerCraft BoomTomb Outdoor Subwoofer First Look

SpeakerCraft BoomTomb Outdoor Subwoofer First Look

If you have neighbors you hate or if you hate not getting the maximum amount of bass, the Speakercraft BoomTomb could be for you. Designed to be buried in your yard, the only evidence you'll see of it is a small tube protruding from a flowerbed. While pricing hasn't been announced yet, SpeakerCraft's rock shaped sub retails for just under a grand. It has (most likely) the same amp but a smaller driver and a more complicated enclosure. We'd expect similar pricing here. While this is a niche product for sure, the fact is that it will probably sell. While we like to snicker at the design, it is pretty innovative. We'd definitely love to get a chance to hear it... just not in our yard.

Pioneer S-LX70 Flat Panel Speaker System Review

Pioneer S-LX70 Flat Panel Speaker System Review

It seems just a few years ago, users didn't have the option to locate good sounding speakers that provided good sound and maintained a look that blended in well with the aesthetics of a wall-mounted flat panel TV. However, the last few years have issued in a new age of speaker systems specific to flat screens serving to both support the sound of movies and sporting events alike as well as being at least serviceable in music playback as well. This review takes a good look at Pioneer's Elite Flat screen speaker system, the S-LX70 series to see if it holds up its end of the home theater standard.

Wisdom Audio Sage Series Architectual Planar Hybrid Speakers First Look

Wisdom Audio Sage Series Architectual Planar Hybrid Speakers First Look

Wisdom Audio describes themselves as "the leader in planar magnetic technologies for architectural speaker solutions." Wisdom Audio has 11 different speaker offerings nearly all of which incorporate planar magnetic and traditional transducer types. They specialize in in- and on-wall speakers but do have a few freestanding options. Because of their unique design, they require integration with their proprietary active crossover which has, surprisingly, Audyssey MultEQ XT room correction built in. Wisdom Audio has taken what is obviously an audiophile product and married it with technology that will make it sound its best. While others are pushing special rocks and cones, Wisdom is adding room correction and dedicated amps. We can see the wisdom in that.

Aperion Intimus 6 In-wall and In-ceiling Speakers

Aperion Intimus 6 In-wall and In-ceiling Speakers

Aperion Audio has just released an upgrade to their existing in-wall, in-ceiling speaker line, the Intimus 6 line. Sporting 6.5" woven fiberglass coned woofers and a 1" silk dome tweeter, the real attractive part of the Aperion Audio Intimus 6-IW and IC is the price. For a bit under $300 shipped, you get a very good set of speakers that should be fantastic (maybe even overkill) for distributed audio and could easily proved sound quality good enough to do rear or surround duties in a home theater setup.

RBH Sound MC-6AW Outdoor Speaker Review

RBH Sound MC-6AW Outdoor Speaker Review

At first I was mainly thinking of the RBH Sound MC-6AW as patio speakers but upon setting them up for some listening tests I discovered “indoor” possibilities as well. They shared many of the sonic virtues of my larger floorstander reference speakers and their performance absolutely bellied their asking price. As I listened, over and over I kept forgetting that these were small indoor/outdoor speakers and kept thinking they sounded better than some speakers I’ve reviewed from more prestigious brands costing several thousands of dollars. The MC-6AW’s can be used in multiple environments. They would be great mounted on the wall next to an on-wall television in either a bedroom or a family room. You could also class up your pool parties by using them on your pool deck or any patio. Just be careful not to make your audiophile friends too envious when they hear such great sound outdoors which ordinarily wouldn’t seem possible.
