Aperion Audio Verus Forte Speaker Family First Look

Aperion Audio Verus Forte Speaker Family First Look

Aperion Audio Verus Forte speakers take everything that was great about the Verus Grand line (especially the tweeter) and made it smaller and more affordable. With the new Verus Forte line you are looking at a 5.0 system at just under $1700 (as opposed to the $3k+ of the Verus Grand). That's a hefty savings for much of the same technology. You'll still need to spring for a sub but you already knew that, right? The diminutive size of the Bookshelves means you'll have no problem placing them. In fact, the entire line is very decor friendly from the furniture-grade finishes to the small footprints and sexy curves. If you can afford the Verus Grand speakers, we have no problem recommending them (if you read the review you should know that). But the Verus Forte looks to be a very nice offering for a nearly 50% savings.

Fluance SX-HTB+ 5.0 Speaker System Review

Fluance SX-HTB+ 5.0 Speaker System Review

For years we'd heard about Fluance speakers, but until we HEARD Fluance speakers we didn't understood what all the hubbub was about. Fluance has been know for offering what appears to be an insanely low-priced surround loudspeaker solution (or stereo depending upon your needs) for what many manufacturers charge for a single refurbished speaker. While it wouldn't be fair to compare the SX-HTB+ speakers to a $1000 surround sound speaker system, or put them up against the likes of any of the full-priced models we've reviewed, it's amazing just how much you can expect for $300. What's even more amazing is that Fluance speakers come with a lifetime manufacturers warranty for parts & labor.

For years we'd heard about Fluance speakers, but until we HEARD Fluance speakers we didn't understood what all the hubbub was about. We take a realistic peek at just how much you can expect for $300.

Aperion Audio Verus Grand Loudspeaker System Review

Aperion Audio Verus Grand Loudspeaker System Review

The new Verus Grand Loudspeaker System from Aperion Audio is their attempt to produce the very best speakers they can for the least amount of money. I have to say, unequivocally, they've succeeded. The Verus Grand Towers image as good if not better than any speaker I've ever experienced. The Verus Grand Center is a joy to experience and makes a huge difference with listening to multichannel content. Our in-room and manufacturers measurements of the speakers are remarkably similar showing that not only has Aperion created a speaker that can measure well in a lab, but can do so in a real world environment. With Aperion's free shipping (both ways) and 30 day in home audition, they are a risk free purchase. The Aperion Audio Verus Grand line has redefined, for me, value in high end speakers, which is why they earned the Audioholics coveted 2010 Product of the Year Award. Highly Recommended!

Boston Acoustics A 360 Floorstanding Loudspeaker First Look

Boston Acoustics A 360 Floorstanding Loudspeaker First Look

The key with the new Boston Acoustics A Series speakers is the price. The flagship A 360 tower of the line runs only $400 each. That means you could get the top of the line towers, top of the line bookshelf (for surround), a center and a sub for around $1800. And that's with top of the line everything. You can start off with the A Series for $900 for a full 5.1 system. We're very curious to see how the A 360 towers (and their smaller brethren the A 250 towers) sound. At $800/$600 a pair, that's bargain basement pricing for tower speakers. For many hardcore Audioholics, that's an impulse buy. For those on a budget, providing the sound quality is there, it's a God-send. This is a chance to get into real speakers at a real affordable price. We look forward to seeing with the Boston Acoustics A Series speakers can do.

Polk Audio LSiM 707 Flagship Floorstanding Speakers First Look

Polk Audio LSiM 707 Flagship Floorstanding Speakers First Look

You put two words together in the same sentence and you are guaranteed to get every Audioholic's attention. Those words - Flagship and Speaker. For almost ten years Polk Audio has had the LSi line as their flagship speakers. This year, at CES, they are introducing a new flagship, the LSiM, headed up by their 707 towers. While pricing hasn't yet been announced, they sport a proprietary 3.25" Extended Liner Motion (ELM) midrange mounted above a 1" Advance Isotropic ring radiator tweeter plus a 6.5" ELM midrange and two 6x9" ELM "subwoofers" (or what you and I would call "woofers"). They are a four way ported design that has 40 years of audio technology behind them. Plus, they are so much better looking than the old LSi speakers we don't know where to begin. Talk about hot. Now, if only we could get them on our test bench.

EMPtek Impression E55Ti Floorstanding Speaker System Review

EMPtek Impression E55Ti Floorstanding Speaker System Review

If you want a speaker that can truly deliver a tonally accurate, dynamically lifelike reproduction of your music which also happens to look stunningly beautiful, than the EMP E55Ti's Impression  Floorstanding speakers should fit the bill nicely.  The E55Ti tower consists of six drivers, and is a vented 3-way design standing nearly 4ft tall. They produce a huge soundstage and can play exceedingly loud down to a modest 50 Hz, with little to no audible compression.  In my opinion, these speakers look as good as they sound which is something I rarely find myself saying at this price point for a tower speaker system. The EMP E55Ti's come with a 5 year warranty and a 30 day money back return policy with free shipping both ways.  This makes for a risk free trial for you to demo these speakers in the most critical and important listening room - your own home theater.  Highly recommended!

Aperion Audio Verus Grand Tower Loudspeaker First Look

Aperion Audio Verus Grand Tower Loudspeaker First Look

If we had to make a checklist of sub-$2k floorstanding speaker "must-haves," the Aperion Verus Grand Towers would score well. Furniture grade finish? Check. Gloss black or cherry real wood veneer? Check. Overbuilt cabinets, sub 50Hz frequency response, and compatibility with many receivers? Check, check, and check. The key advancement to the Verus Grand line in the tweeter. Sporting what Aperion calls an Axially Stabilized Radiator design, this 1" silk dome tweeter is designed not only to handle the top end, but also the upper-mid frequencies. Aperion is still supporting their Risk-Free 30-Day In-Home Audition with this new line. With free shipping both ways (even if you don't like them), it takes a lot of a stress of ordering online away.

The Aperion Verus Grand Towers have it all. Furniture grade finish, gloss black or cherry real wood veneer, overbuilt cabinets, sub 50Hz frequency response, and compatibility with many receivers? Yep.

PSB Speakers Imagine T Tower Speaker First Look

PSB Speakers Imagine T Tower Speaker First Look

The PSB Speakers Imagine T tower floorstanding speakers look to be quite a lot of speaker for the $2000 a pair asking price. We recently conducted a single-blind $1500-$2000 Floorstanding Speaker Shootout and really wish we could have had the Imagine T speakers represented. From an aesthetic standpoint, they are quite something to behold. We like all the thought that went into the design (especially the included outriggers). The PSB Imagine T's are rated from 42Hz to 20kHz on axis with 1.5dB of variance and as low as 38Hz at -3dB. At 30 degrees off axis you'll see a 10Hz drop off on the top end from the 1.5dB variance on-axis response but everything else is the same. This is a remarkable figure (especially considering the price) provided it can be realized in room.

The PSB Speakers Imagine T tower floorstanding speakers are easy on the eyes, have remarkable rated response, and are affordable for any true Audioholic.
