Oppo has managed to keep the new BDP-103 at the same $499 price point as the older BDP-93. That's a pretty amazing feat considering all the video features. With dual HDMI inputs and three USB inputs, the Marvell Qdeo 4K upscaling and 2D to 3D conversion is going to get a lot of use. With the BDP-105, Oppo had to increase their asking price to an estimated $1199 ($200 more than the BDP-95). With the ability to be used as a USB DAC, a dedicated headphone amp, and upgraded audio components, the BDP-105 should be just as popular with the audiophile crowd as the previous model.

Oppo's HM-31 is what I like to call "full featured." What's full featured to an HDMI switch? How 'bout it does everything you expect it to plus some? How 'bout it has every custom integration option you'll ever need? How 'bout it looks so nice that you'll want to upgrade the components sitting near it? Sure it's just an HDMI switch but when it does so many things right, it's easy to get excited about it.

Last year we reviewed the Oppo DV-983H universal DVD player which, while a couple years too late to market, was still an impressive product that redefined the price points for universal players. Now, with the only other universal Blu-ray/DVD player coming in at almost 10x the price, Oppo has finally beat the market and brings a true universal disc player to the home theater market that not only plays Blu-ray discs, but also DVD-Audio, SACD and, of course, DVD videos and CDs.

When Oppo announced a hot rod version of their highly regarded BDP-83 Blu-ray player, it piqued our interest. Considering the stock player demonstrated stellar audio and video performance via the HDMI outputs and respectable analog audio performance, we figured it would simply be icing on the cake for Oppo to offer a supped up version and evidently they agreed, hence the BDP-83SE was born. As we began our exhaustive analog audio measurement process, we discovered some operational and performance issues on both players which are noted in this report. Fellow Oppo users fear NOT as we have made Oppo fully aware of these issues and they are working on solutions as you read this article.

Oppo proved that they can build a better mouse trap with their new BDP-9x series of Blu-ray players. Both players exhibited benchmark audio performance while the BDP-95 exceeded those marks to the point where we were measuring the limits of our $40k Audio Precision HDMI analyzer. Our tests proved that the BDP-93 and BDP-95 Blu-ray players are everything so many other so called "high end" players wish they could be and much more. We haven't run across any higher priced players that can better the overall performance of the BDP-93, let alone the BDP-95. Both are handsomely finished, giving their high performance a classy look. But is the BDP-95 worth 2X the cost of the BDP-93? Read our assessment to find out….
