River Cable Flexygy 8 Speaker Cable Review
[0.23]
by Gene,September 20, 2005 20:00
- The River Cable Flexygy 8 flat speaker cable doesn't fall under the "poorly designed" category by any means. It's a superbly built product that provides higher installation flexibility because of its flat design and ultra low capacitance and resistance. It's well thought out in that you can order it from the manufacturer terminated either for low inductance or low capacitance to better suit your needs. At $373.69 for a 3 meter pair, the Flexygy 8 came in at a 90% cost premium to my favorite cable in their product line. Is it worth it? You decide.

Monster Cable is Back! Sues Mini-Golf Company
[0.23]
by wayde,May 27, 2008 10:23
- Monster Cable has already attracted the ire of hi-fi enthusiasts worldwide. If it's not putting up shady displays at big box stores to lure customers into its Monster Cable scam it's doing the same at trade shows like CES. But Monster Cable’s moral ambiguity isn’t limited to promotion of premium priced cables. Monster is fast becoming known as a litigious nuisance in an effort to protect the exclusivity of its name brand. Not long after Audioholics reported on the intellectual property rights dust-up Monster created with Kurt over at Blue Jeans Cable, now Monster is looking to bully a mini-golf company named Monster Mini-Golf.

Should I Spend That Much on Exotic Audio Cables!?
[0.23]
by Gene,July 16, 2016 01:00
- We seem to get more emails about cables than virtually any other topic in audio. A particular email caught our attention when one of our readers was concerned about spending as much money on interconnects as their AV processor. These type of situations may sound absurd to the uninitiated but sales and marketing are very powerful tools often used to dupe consumers into parting with their hard earned cash for some promised miracle fix to allegedly improve the sonics of your hi-fi system. See how we advise the concerned reader on buying expensive exotic cables.

Belden & Blue Jeans Cable Shatter HDMI Record
[0.23]
by clint,July 07, 2009 08:57
- OK, well it's not exactly something Guinness was excited about, but Belden did manage to run 1080p/60 signal through an unamplified 100-foot run of HDMI cable. That's about 30 meters for anyone majoring in metric-to-SEA conversion ratios - and far beyond what is considered possible in terms of unamplified HDMI capabilities.

Ram Electronics HS Speaker Cable Review
[0.23]
by tom,May 28, 2009 08:25
- The Ram Electronics HS series of cables is built on the tried but true Canare 4S11 cable. Since before working for Audioholics the Canare 4S11 cables have been my preferred choice for speaker cables. They may not be the best choice for tight spaces or in-wall runs but they look a lot better than the Belden alternative and generally have a lot of weight and heft to them. They just feel like quality. Ram Electronics is giving you access to these cables with top of the line termination options. While you can find some brands for cheaper, if you're looking for the best construction, looks, and components, the HS cables are for you.

CableCARD Deadline Imminent
[0.23]
by clint,June 11, 2007 12:30
- CableCARD discussions have come and gone on this site, however there IS an actual deadline looming that is about to finally force the companies to split off the security features of cable from the tuners. This is significant for two particular reasons: 1) The deadline is no longer extendable- at least according to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, and 2) the cable companies themselves must comply with the new methodology, meaning they will have to use their own CableCARDS.
