On April 7th, MuxLab joined the HDBaseT Alliance.

For folks that have never heard of MuxLab Inc., the Canadian manufacturer has been in the business of producing signal distribution equipment in the A/V and CCTV markets for almost three decades. On April 7th, they became official Adopter Members of the HDBase T Alliance.

Great you say, what exactly does that mean? HDBase T is a new standard for delivering HD audio and video content over a simple CAT5e or CAT6 cable. In addition to A/V signals, standard Ethernet is also passed through the connection, as is up to 100W of power, enough to handle the demands of your average flat screen TV without requiring a separate power cord. In short, HDBaseT is what HDMI should have been, including a connector that locks into place.

As one might imagine, joining the Alliance gives MuxLab access to final specifications and updates, not to mention it ensures that their products go through testing to verify compatibility. What’s more exciting is that with 90+ manufacturers now on board, the specification seems to be gaining steam.

As a special side note, word on the street has it that Audioholics will be evaluating a product or two from MuxLab in the near future. Stay tuned!
