Unlike most cable companies, hardware seems to be an area of innovation for DISH. This week, they announced an add-on to the Hopper Whole-Home HD DVR platform which increases the tuner capacity of the Hopper experience. Specifically, the Super Joey adds two more network tuners to the Hopper’s three native tuners, allowing you to now record up to eight shows simultaneously. This, combined with the Prime Time Anywhere feature all but eliminates channel conflicts and lets you record just about anything anywhere. In fact, I'd have to say, if you run into a conflict with 8 tuners, you have a seriously large family or you consume far too much TV!

"We know TV viewers have searched for years for a solution to alleviate conflict over what to watch, and with Super Joey, customers no longer have to choose one program over another,. Combined with Hopper’s 2,000 hours of storage, Super Joey makes it even easier for customers to enjoy more of the shows they love without having to negotiate what’s recorded with other viewers in the house."

- Vivek Khemka, DISH senior vice president of product management

The Super Joey includes analogue video outs, HDMI, Ethernet and also USB and eSATA.

Super Joey was first introduced at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year alongside the new Wireless Joey and the Virtual Joey. When cable TV seems to be stagnating (when was the last time you heard about a hardware advance from a cable TV provider?) It's need to see DISH still excited about providing new features and hardware. That'a why we like to stay up with it. There's an excitement about new networking and DVR capabilities that makes for more options and opportunities for consumers. And the more innovation we see, the more the competition will have to fight to keep up—good news for everyone.
