Pass Labs X350.5 Stereo Power Amplifier Review [0.17] by Gene,October 23, 2012 22:35
The Pass Labs X350.5 350 watt/ch stereo amplifier has the appearance like it was sculpted by Cybertronians. It portrays a commanding presence that just draws your attention. The X350.5 is built like a tank, pegging the scale in the pride of ownership department and weight (132 lbs). Its pristine sonic virtues and ability to drive even the most challenging of speaker loads beyond reference levels is even more impressive than its overall excellent bench test results. But, its power hungry demeanor and luxurious pricing isn't for the faint of wallet. However, I'm confident if Optimus Prime were an audiophile, it's a sure bet the X350.5 would be his amplifier of choice. Audiophile & Audioholics recommended!
Can Good Amplifier Design Mitigate Sonic Differences Between Cables? [0.17] by Gene,June 04, 2015 01:00
We uncovered an audio myth on our YouTube channel I didn’t even know was being perpetuated by some esoteric amplifier companies. Apparently there is a belief that designing an amplifier to be too stable and protected to prevent damage or fire during misuse or short circuiting will result in sound degradation. Really? And how will designing an amp to allow RF ingress or oscillation not do the same or worse? Read on to find out.

Going to 7.1-Channel Surround Sound [0.16] by Alan Lofft,July 03, 2009 09:15
Almost everyone loves surround sound, (except for an eccentric actor whom I know who actually prefers mono!) and what’s not to love? Our ears are on each side of our head, canted forward, but we hear sounds from every direction with almost equal precision. For that reason multi-channel sound reproduction is intrinsically more realistic and believable. But how many surround speakers are required to present a plausible illusion of the real thing?

Yamaha has finally announced its new flagship receiver. The RX-Z11 is a 11.2 powerhouse that breaks all of boundaries of former Yamaha receivers and steps up to present more advanced features than anything else they have delivered to date. First off is the new 11.2 moniker - how can you have 11.2 in a home theater system? With a lot of DSP...
Key Digital Phantom Series Distribution Amplifiers Preview [0.16] by clint,December 28, 2010 22:00
Many installers have problems with HDMI systems when they use an AV Receiver to handle the switching chores. The AV receiver may not handle the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) properly which can cause intermittent picture or sound artifacts. The main issue is that TV EDID sometimes is misunderstood or misinterpreted by the AVR in between the HDMI source and AVR. As a result the AVR reports wrong EDID data to the source and nothing works. One way Key Digital has found to eliminate or reduce the issues when using AVR's, is to insert a KD-HDDA1x2 Distribution Amplifier between the AVR and the Display. Once KD-HDDA1x2 (or any other of our DA) is inserted, it "buffers" this misunderstanding and provides "perfect" default EDID to the system and both the AVR and the source are happy and signal goes through.

New Snags in the Digital TV Transition - Moola [0.16] by david,June 11, 2008 10:34
The Congressionally mandated switch to digital broadcasting on February 19, 2009 may face another obstacle besides senior citizens who have no idea that their TV's will go out and youngsters who don't care about analog anything: Money. There's not enough of it to guarantee everyone a box.
