Reference System 3: Tom Andry

by September 30, 2007
Reference System 3

Reference System 3

Main features include Aperion Audio's Verus Grand Towers, Center and Bookshelf speakers for full surround duties. For reference, we keep on hand  Emotiva's highly acclaimed ERD-1s for di-pole/bi-pole reference. Of course the Axiom EP500 subwoofer - one of the nicer subwoofers we've measured to date - fills out the bottom end nicely with the Aperion Audio Bravus II 12D lending a helping hand. A Squeezebox Duet server allows for audio streaming from computers and the Internet. Recent additions include Emotiva Audio's RSP-1, RPA-1, and Denon's DVD-3910 for testing high end speakers and Seymour AV's Ice Block Amplifies for powering the mains. In the future components in this system are likely to be somewhat "fluid" as Tom heads up many flat panel, speaker, and Media Center PC reviews. The room has recently been converted to a front projection system with Da-Lite universal mount and screen. Reference projector has not be determined yet.

Pics and Photos

Here are some interior shots of Reference System 3 which feature the custom-made acoustical panels and theater chairs. These panels provide some acoustical absorption where needed down to ~250Hz and help tame the room, providing a more even frequency response. Note - these pictures are a bit old but the panels shown are still in use. There will be updated pictures and information including a description of the room acoustics and tuning in an upcoming article.
