JBL Synthesis SDP-80

HARMAN Luxury Audio Group has announced the upcoming launch of the JBL Synthesis SDP-80, a state-of-the-art home theater processor designed to compete with the best of the best. Pricing and detailed specs have not yet been announced, but the SDP-80 will be in the top echelon of processors, alongside the best offerings from StormAudio and Trinnov. In fact, the SDP-80 is based on Trinnov's design architecture, so expect to pay accordingly. Naturally, HARMAN Luxury Audio Group would recommend pairing the SDP-80 with JBL Synthesis amplifiers, including the SMA-4750 ($5,000) and SMA-8300 ($6,000), which recently began shipping.

Building upon the acclaimed SDP-75, the new SDP-80 represents the latest evolution in home cinema surround processing, with 36-channel immersive audio support and HDMI 2.1 connectivity for the most advanced entertainment experiences available today. The SDP-80’s 8 HDMI 2.1 inputs and 2 outputs support 48Gbps bandwidth — enough for 8K resolution at 60 frames per second and 4K at 120 frames per second with HDR. Video pass-through accommodates HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HDCP 2.3 support. Of course, audio processing is the main event for a product like the SDP-80, which features 36 channels of high-resolution processing, delivering immersive audio via Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, and Auro-3D. As the company has with a few previous top-of-the-line processors, JBL Synthesis has licensed the superb Trinnov Optimizer EQ room correction solution for the SDP-80, which defaults to a newly-refined, custom HARMAN Target Curve. To ensure optimal system tuning, the Trinnov Optimizer allows for highly-granular adjustment. The SDP-80 also offers pre-configured JBL loudspeaker EQ settings to maximize the accuracy of various JBL Synthesis loudspeakers. Compared to the outgoing SDP-75, the SDP-80 includes new DACs, a new motherboard, and a new power supply. According to JBL Synthesis, the newer model therefore offers faster switching and improved audio performance.

The JBL Synthesis SDP-80 is designed to push the boundaries of home cinema performance. With 8K video compatibility, and seamless integration with JBL Synthesis systems, it provides an unparalleled level of precision and immersion. Whether it’s a dedicated home cinema or a high-performance media room, the SDP-80 is built for the most demanding enthusiasts.

This level of product is likely to be part of a complex system installed by a professional, so it’s loaded with control and integration features that contribute to seamless operation. The SDP-80 features balanced XLR multichannel outputs, AES3 digital connectivity, and Roon Ready high resolution music streaming. Additionally, network-based control (with modules available for AMX, Crestron, and Savant) ensures effortless system operation.

The JBL Synthesis SDP-80 will be available soon through authorized JBL Synthesis dealers.
