BG Unveils Flagship Radia In-Wall Loudspeaker

by September 09, 2005

BG premiered their R-800, an all new flagship in-wall loudspeaker system for their Radia Series. The speakers feature a new ribbon driver technology, a massive machined aluminum front baffle and dual active 8" woofers. Priced at $10,000 MSRP for two R-800's and a 500W/channel Class AB amplifier with switching power supply, the Radia R-800 package will be available for shipment in October, 2005.

Consistent with the BG legacy of a true line source, the R-800 features an all new amplitude shading crossover technique designed to utilize less planar drivers (reducing total surface area) when running higher frequencies to attain better overall performance. Targeted for either lifelike home theater or critical music listening, the R-800 is elegant in appearance. The R-800 can be paired with the new Radia R-400C Center Channel and/or R-88 active subwoofer.

[IMGP1681] At the heart of the R-800 is BG's all new, patent pending Neo10 - a 10" X 5" planar ribbon midrange driver based on the company's proprietary technology. Significantly larger in size than typical ribbon drivers, the Neo10 sets new standards for sensitivity, output, power handling and accuracy. In fact, the driver's size allows it to move substantial amounts of air while keeping diaphragm excursion at relatively low levels. BG claims that controlled excursion translates into lower distortion and higher sensitivity while providing remarkable resolution, clarity and linear response.

Anchoring the R-800 system is an impressive low frequency section, comprised of dual 8" long throw woofers and a dedicated dual channel 500 watt x 2 amplifier (BGA-2500) incorporating BASH technology. The woofers, located at the top and bottom of a massive machined aluminum front baffle, utilize innovative technology that features a unique motor structure and short voice coil design, yielding twice the linear excursion of a conventional woofer. According to BG, this results in significantly lower distortion, wider dynamics and greatly improved performance. The combination of the BGA-2500 amplifier and twin long throw woofers delivers low frequency performance not easily achieved inside of a wall.

Key Radia R-800 Features:

  • Six patent pending, ultra high performance Neo10 planar ribbon wideband drivers
  • 92dB sensitivity
  • Line Source acoustically coupled array with controlled vertical and wide horizontal dispersion
  • Powerful BGA-2500 1000 watt (500 watt x 2) Class AB amplifier featuring BASH technology to power the LF section
