Blaupunkt Debuts Sirius SR04 Satellite Radio Tuner for Car and Home

by August 24, 2004

BROADVIEW, IL. (8/24/04) - Blaupunkt has announced immediate deliveries of a SIRIUS Satellite Radio plug-and-play radio for both home and car that provides digital-quality, uninterrupted coast-to-coast reception of over 120-channels of music, news, sports and entertainment. Unlike conventional AM and FM radios that work best within 20-40 miles of a radio station, the Blaupunkt America SR04 is compatible with SIRIUS Satellite Radio, which offers crystal clear reception essentially everywhere in the continental United States.

The Blaupunkt America SR04 consists of a removable tuner, in-car plug-and-play mounting cradle, DC power supply, wireless remote control and a satellite antenna. The audio output can be hard-wired to a car stereo receiver with auxiliary inputs, a feature available on most Blaupunkt car audio receivers. The America SR04 also has a built-in 12-channel wireless FM modulator to broadcast SIRIUS to any FM tuner. At home, the same Blaupunkt America SR04 can be plugged into an optional home accessory kit, which includes the home cradle, home antenna, AC power supply and audio cables.

Sirius SR04 satellite home SIRIUS Satellite Radio offers 65 channels of commercial-free music, plus over 50 channels of news, talk, entertainment and sports-- including the NFL -- for a subscription price of $12.95 per month, or approximately $10 a month with up-front payment of a year or more. The subscription covers both the home and car use of a single satellite tuner.

The Blaupunkt America SR04 is remarkably small at just 4-3/4-inches wide, 3-1/8 inches tall and 1-1/8 inch deep. It features a large easy-to-read graphic display that provides real-time information about the current channel, title, and artist. The highly intuitive display and controls, plus 30 preset channel memories, make it easy to jump to your favorite programs. A wireless remote control duplicates all functions of the tuner. It is also possible to use a search mode to locate channels, artists, and program or song titles. A song-seek mode alerts the user if one of up to 10 favorite songs or programs is on another channel.

The Blaupunkt America SR04 is currently available from Blaupunkt dealers with a suggested retail price of $159.95; the optional home kit costs $49.95.
