Last year we saw JVC and LG debuting products at CEDIA 2010 which upconverted, in real-time, 2D content to 3D. It was moderately impressive, though it certainly had its limitations. Taking into account the health concerns with 3D viewing, I'm not sure this is something we'd want enabled at the push of a button for all content. The headache-factor would be enormous as we'd spend hours and hours watching TV - essentially with our eyes crossed. Well, undaunted by the facts or the irrational nature of all-3D all-the-time, PrimeDTV is getting ready to debut a new product on its eStore, the PHD-3DX. This is a brand-spanking-new 2D to 3D video converter set-top box. The STB converts HD quality (720p/1080p) video to any 3D format (vertical, horizontal, etc) required for most 3D-ready HDTVs. The kicker: It does it in real-time.

Besides 3D for movies, the box is designed to work with video games - something that even we admit, has a LOT of potential to dominate the market. The website isn't yet ready, but eventually you can get more information and pricing from www.epvision.com.

Oh pleasee no, not another converterbox!! does anyone thing that this 3D stuff is gonna stay around?

It's bad enough then studios take a week or two to convert their 2D movies to “3D”, but now lets ruin 3D experience even further by approximating it in real-time …

Thanks, but no thanks
