Speakers with optical input or buy DAC?

Been a member for a long time but my first time posting, I am looking to par a set of speakers using the optical/toslink on my PC I am sick and tired of using "gaming" speakers. I was wondering what the best approach for me would be, to use speakers like Edifier S1000MKII which have an optical port built in or buy a DAC and get something like Audioengine A5+ (these are not necessarily what I plan to get just examples)

If it is only for the PC on your desktop, I would say a DAC + powered speakers is a much better option than PC speakers and still gives you more options than looking for speakers that have optical input.
