I do not often find myself saying “this is an amazing speaker”, but this is an amazing speaker! The Maxxhorn uses a 5 inch driver to make low frequencies that such loudspeakers do not make without a huge horn attached to them. The Maxxhorn does use a horn, but it is folded and completely behind the forward facing driver allowing it to reach the extremely high frequencies a folded horn would by its nature eliminate. The Lumination utilizes the Feastrex 5 series driver, which is a full range unit of exceptional quality and construction.

According to Robert Spence, who was kind and patient enough to entertain me for the better part of an hour, the sound from the horn (which fires into the floor) adds substantially to the speakers output up to 1000 hz. My colleague ( a speaker designer also) laid on the floor looking rather silly, so he could hear the information coming from the bottom of the long tall cabinet, and was amazed as well.

There is a lot of good information on this model on Maxxhorns website at: http://www.maxxhorn.com/

The MSRP goes from $24,500 to $28,500 depending on your driver preference.
