PODZ Cases Full Review

If you are interested in new ways to store your CDs and CD-Rs and tire of the center hubs and shells breaking on your traditional jewel cases, PODZ may be a good option for you.

As PODZ innovator Dave McMichael puts it: "Traditional CD cases crack, shatter, lose lids, flip open and offer only minimal protection. Students are always on the go -- they need something that allows them to toss CDs in a backpack and not worry about whether their music or school documents will be damaged."

Targeted towards people on the go, PODZ offers a more casual style of CD organization by simply providing a protective sheath for each CD. If you can imagine what it would be like to have indestructible CDs that could just be tossed into a bag or taken with you while you're on the go - that's the PODZ CD storage concept.

The individual CD cases are only slightly larger than a CD and protect the disc by elevating it near the center ring. The PODZ are incredibly easy to use and are much easier to open and close than any other plastic CD case I've used.

PODZ offers a wallet storage system in additional to its lineup of 8 individual case colors (ice clear, ruby, sapphire, pink quartz, purple jade, turquoise, titanium, and kryptonite). The wallet system is simply a PODZ -sized Case Logic wallet that comes with (and stores) 10 Ice Clear PODZ cases. While a nice way to organize your PODZ , we couldn't help but wonder why they didn't offer any booklet-style anchoring system that didn't result in 10 PODZ spilling onto the floor when the unit is unzipped. Maybe this is something that will come out in future product iterations.

Conclusion

Overall, we found the PODZ to be a nice addition to the available CD storage options. For those on the go, who simply like to toss their CDs into their bags and go, PODZ offers a nice alternative to fragile jewel cases or bulky organizers.

The Score Card

The scoring below is based on each piece of equipment doing the duty it is designed for. The numbers are weighed heavily with respect to the individual cost of each unit, thus giving a rating roughly equal to:

Performance × Price Factor/Value = Rating

Audioholics.com note: The ratings indicated below are based on subjective listening and objective testing of the product in question. The rating scale is based on performance/value ratio. If you notice better performing products in future reviews that have lower numbers in certain areas, be aware that the value factor is most likely the culprit. Other Audioholics reviewers may rate products solely based on performance, and each reviewer has his/her own system for ratings.
