What you get when you order it is a driver, an amp, the wire to connect the two, and a flat-packed EFS enclosure. You'll be responsible for all the tools you'll need to put the sub together plus any veneer you may want to apply. Those afraid of veneer, wood glue, or just moving a 100 lbs+ sub from your workshop to your home theater need not apply. For the rest, you're getting an eD sub at a serious discount (not including what you'll spend on shipping, veneer, and chiropractic adjustments) that you can custom finish. We're sure this is going to to be a popular product with a select group. All we have to say is - Pics please!

Boston 2.4GHz Wireless-Ready Subs First Look

The new subs are in the Classic line and have 8, 10, and 12" drivers (the CPS 8Wi, CPS 10Wi, CPS 12Wi at $399, $499, and $599 respectively) and are wireless-ready. This means that you'll need to purchase the transmitter separately for $79. Consumers surely will be interested in this wireless offering as it has a more traditional look than the discontinued model from Boston. But we're betting they are going to want the transmitter included in the purchase price.

Paradigm Reference Signature SUB 1 and SUB 2 First Look

When we checked out Paradigm's new sub offerings, we couldn't help but be reminded of a classic children's story well loved by us from our childhood. While lacking colorful illustrations and more talented writing, we tried to keep the spirit of that author alive through this first look of Paradigm's Reference Signature SUB 1 and SUB 2. So take this first look with a grain of salt, for the rhyming idea is really Paradigm's fault.

KEF HTB2SE-W Wireless Subwoofer First Look

With all the subwoofer options out there, it is hard to stand apart. KEF has always had little problem in this arena with innovative and unique speaker designs. Their new HTB2SE-W wireless subwoofer is no different. At just a bit larger than a 14" cube and a matte black finish, the A3s-250 should have little problems disappearing into a corner or shadow. Your spouse will like that. Of course, you'll like when it starts rocking your room and shaking the pictures loose. Sounds like a win, win to us.

Bowers & Wilkins ASW12-CM Subwoofer First Look

B&W looks to have a solid contender with this sub. If you don't have one, you want one. Even if you have a sub you are happy with, there is always that nagging question in the back of your mind… "What would a Velodyne sound like in my room?" There is no doubt that the Velodyne DEQ-15R delivers the bass. While the DEQ-15R may not do everything quite right, it certainly has enough going for it that I don't mind giving it a very strong recommendation.

Elemental Designs A7s-650 Subwoofer

When you are a company known for outrageously large subwoofers, you have to do something to expand your market base. The answer - vertical integration. Elemental Designs latest subwoofer offerings have had one thing in common - they are tall. The newest in the line is the A7s-650. This A7s-650 features two forward firing 13" drivers in an enclosure that only takes up a 16" square floor space but stands 38" tall and dips down to 16Hz.

Elemental Designs eQ.2 Parametric Equalizer Review

The last several years have seen an increase of the number of options for room equalization at bass frequencies available to consumers. Following up on my A7S-450 review, I was asked to review an external parametric equalizer that Elemental Designs (eD) sells alongside its subwoofers. The eQ.2, can be purchased separately or as a bundle with one of the eD’s subwoofers at a slightly reduced price. The eQ.2 represents a usable parametric EQ solution but with some caveats. It is inexpensive and functional, but it is bare bones basic. For someone on a tight budget or the DIY types, the eQ.2 will certainly do the trick provided you take the time to set it up properly as I instruct in this review.

While there are certainly much larger subs from other brands at the same price or less, you will be hard pressed to find all of the performance attributes the f110 has to offer in such a compact box. Not once did I find the f110s output lacking as they were always able to rattle my walls and shake my couches when the source material required it. It’s clear to me that JL Audio is as serious about high fidelity in the home environment as they have been in mobile audio since their inception. Bassaholics rejoice as JL Audio has produced a reference level product that will thump, and thump well, without requiring a refrigerator sized box that you neither have the space nor the accepting wife to accommodate.

The Speaker Company T300 Subwoofer Review

Overall the tSc T300 subwoofer has really impressed me. Usually, with an online retailer, a well performing sub is either huge in size or huge in price. The T300 manages to pack a lot of performance in a very small box. For a smaller to perhaps medium sized room, the T300 is too good of a deal to pass up. For larger rooms, you will most likely need to step up to a more powerful subwoofer or consider running two or four of these.

Elemental Designs A7-900 Subwoofer

We don't often get first looks as early as we have for the Elemental Designs A7-900 subwoofer. They don't even have a production model yet! The pictures we've seen are of a constructed but unfinished cabinet. But what construction! While many people may have heard about them from forums on through word of mouth, their presence hasn't been very widely known. Those that do know of them, however, have been in a unique position - they've been heard. Elemental Designs has prided itself in being responsive to their customers. Up until now most of their inventory has been "build-to-order". It performs well, blatting out a lot of deep bass, but not at the expense of musical nuance and subtlety. Contrary to its considerable size, it is also fully capable of disappearing, sonically, blending well in a properly calibrated and tuned system, handling quiet bottom end detail, and belting it out when called upon without giving it position away. If the room to board this beast is available and the wife won’t kill you for bringing it home, it is definitely a worthy subwoofer to consider at anywhere near its price point. Gone is the mentality of simply having an in-wall subwoofer solution as a compromise for aesthetic purposes. Manufacturers are taking these solutions more seriously for upscale high performance installations. Granted they aren’t all cheap, but to get the kind of output and performance we are seeing involving little engineering marvels that simply weren’t a reality only a few years ago. JL Audio, and Velodyne showed us some impressive in-wall subs and Paradigm apparently has a not so unique prototype in development as well.

High Output Box Subwoofers - Whats New for 2008

While scouring CEDIA, it was pretty impossible to get away from the boom generated by all the active demos competing to get noticed in a crowed noisy show floor. It is rare to find a sub this small that can not only provide copious bass output, but also can provide deep and accurate bass output as well. While not cheap by some standards, the HRS-12 subwoofers do an excellent job balancing the design and providing outstanding performance without skyrocketing the price. . Considering that the HRS-12s can easily provide better than two thirds of the performance of subs like the Fathoms at a mere one third of the price, the HRS-12s are a well engineered, high value product that represents a very good bargain for anyone looking for extreme levels of bass performance at less than extreme prices.

AV123 MFW-15 Subwoofer

Some things are worth the wait, and if you're a fan of AV123 you've been waiting for the MFW-15 for a very long time. The TR-3 improves upon many of the existing popular characteristics of the TR-2, such as an integral bass equalizer that goes up to 6dB of low bass boost, with a total output of 300 watts RMS. The cylindrical steel enclosure mirrors AGA’s spherical technology that allows for smooth, yet powerful, bass from 22Hz to 180Hz. Within its limits, it did a number of things exceptionally well. Add to all that product support, a very useful, interesting manual and small enough to fit comfortably in all but the tiniest locales and in the VTF-3 Mk3 you find a truly top-flight product and an excellent investment for the discerning movie and music lover. I was consistently surprised by how well Dr Hsu managed to get this thoroughbred with a 12” driver to perform on a consistent basis. I’ll close with a strong buy recommendation; buy two if the budget allows for it!

I found it to be both musical and responsive to the source material I threw at it while still capable of very respectable output levels. Sonically, the VTF-1 is similar to the STF-1, retaining the best qualities while making sonic improvements with key differences consisting of the larger driver, an increase in amplifier power, and the ability to play lower. The end result is that the VTF-1 sounds like a heftier sub, sonically, than the STF-1 with a similar price to performance ratio. If you are in the market for a high value subwoofer then Hsu should be on the list of products to investigate; the VTF-1 is a good sub that is hard to beat at the price.

This is a powerful sub capable of prodigious deep bass output. Make no mistake; if you have loose objects in the house, this sub will locate them and point them out. Also, be prepared to find interior partition walls complaining into adjacent rooms. For the best possible listening experience, find all loose items and secure them. Trouble is, the surrounding area is naturally pummeled with the constant overhead noise of McDonnell Douglas/Boeing engines and the steady ring of planes on final approach. But up close, the jets take on an altogether different feel. Noise becomes power.

Sonic Immersion Technologies I Beam VT300 Transducer

There are many very good and effective tactile transducers on the market today. Sonic Immersions Technologies recently introduced their high tech I Beam VT-300 transducer stating it has the capability to produce “High Definition Bass”. We don’t proclaim to know what exactly the meaning of “High Definition Bass” is, but being dedicated Audioholics, we were certainly eager to find out.

SVSound SB12-Plus Review

SVSound is no stranger to the hallowed pages of Audioholics.com. Building their reputation on products with a high bang-for-the-buck value (and this small sub is one impressively big bang-for-the-buck product), they are renowned for their comparatively large products, such as the mighty SVS PB12Plus-/2 reviewed earlier in this web page.

Onix x-sub Subwoofer Review

Yeah budget subs! Personally, my first real speaker purchase (one that took place after research done on my part and not just buying a friend’s hand-me-downs) was a budget sub. And it sucked. Big time. I read a lot of the “reviews” available – mostly reprinted press releases and the occasional testimonial from an owner, and thought I was getting a pretty good product. What I got was a product that people who own HTiBs or worse think is a pretty good product. Well, I promise to give you the real scoop on this budget sub so that you’ll know its limitations and strengths. Better you know what you are getting yourself into from the outset then get surprised I always say.

Sonic Immersion Wireless Digital Audio Link Review

Pre-wiring a complex multi-speaker home theater system in an existing single-family home, condo or townhouse can be a daunting task even for the highly trained professional A/V installer. Obstacles such as tile floors, no attic or cellar access, two story homes, and location of windows and doors in your future home theater room can compromise locations of speakers. The last thing that many new homeowners want to do is demolish wall plaster or ceiling sheetrock in their new home to install wire for speaker and subwoofer locations.

Crowson Technology Motion Actuator Kit Review

Motion actuators and tactile transducers can be a quick, easy and effective way to add fun and excitement to your home theater system.

SVS PB12-Plus/2 Subwoofer System Review

SVSound is a relative newcomer to the home audio arena and has quickly made a name for itself. In the relatively short time they've been in existence they’ve earned an enviable reputation for building products that deliver exceptionally high value for the price. My experience with the PB12-Plus/2 has shown that reputation is richly deserved. This is one impressively big bang-for-the- buck product.

HSU Research STF-1 Subwoofer Review

The STF-1 is the entry level subwoofer from Hsu Research. We all know that we want our systems' audio and video to appeal to our senses (sight and sound) and we want our lighting and seating to be just right. So, what are we missing? There is one sense that remains untapped for the majority: feeling.
