The world of headphones has been dominated by a particular design over the last few years (just look at all the hoopla surrounding the Beats by Dre). The Scosche RH1060 Bluetooth Headphones are no exception. They too feature the signature large, round, over/on ear cups and wide headband. Lately, these ear cups have mostly been used to prominently display logos, but they haven't had a lot of functional value. Scosche is looking to make use of all the real estate on the side of your head with their new RH1060 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones with Controls.

Honestly, we don't know why they felt the need to specify "with controls" either. How else can you use Bluetooth headphones?

The Scosche RH1060 Bluetooth headphones feature a gloss black finish with silver and chrome highlights. The ear cups are filled with viscoelastic memory foam for a comfortable fit and covered with genuine leather. The headband is fully adjustable and has a two axis gimbal system to ensure a good fit on any sized head. Utilizing stainless steel hinges, the RH1060s collapse and can be stored in the included soft travel pouch.

Scosche has put a lot of technology behind the RH1060s to make sure they sound as good as they look. The sound chambers are ported for additional bass response. The 40mm REALM drivers are mated with rare-earth neodymium magnets, providing a rated frequency response between 20Hz and 20kHz. The RH1060s have a specified impedance of 32ohms and a sensitivity of 100dB +/- 3dB at 11kHz. Scosche has also provided AAC compatibility for the best possible sound reproduction.

Of course, the claim to fame of the RH1060s is the Bluetooth functionality. Sporting a claimed range of 33 feet (all Bluetooth devices claim this—in real use, the range can vary widely), the RH1060s have built-in lithium-ion batteries promising a run time of up to 8 hours and a standby time of 1000 hours. Lithium-ion batteries are a nice touch as they tend to hold their charge very well, don't require you to discharge them fully before recharging, and tend to put out full power right up until the time they quit. Using a micro-USB cable (included), the RH1060s can be recharged in around three hours.

One of the things we most like to see with wireless or other headphones that require power, is a way of bypassing that need for direct use with your device. Scosche has provided for this with an included cable for direct connection. This allows you to use your device to power the RH1060s and preserving your battery life for other uses.

There are controls on sides of the RH1060 ear cups including power, play/pause, and track and volume controls. There is also an integrated mic so that you can make/receive calls or record memos. The RH1060s are targeted directly at iDevice users with the list of compatible devices dominated by Apple products. The RH1060 Bluetooth headphones are Siri compatible as well. In fact, the only devices that are listed on the compatible list that aren't Apple are two Samsung phones, Netbooks, and "Tablet". We're guessing the Scosche will work with any Bluetooth compatible device, but it is sure to work properly with iDevices.

Conclusion

The Scosche RH1060 headphones have all the modern stylings that you want paired with the Bluetooth and iDevice compatibility that you need. With an eight hour battery life, AAC and Siri compatibility, and the ability to collapse into a small storage case, these are headphones for those on the go. At $200, you may not want to take them to the gym but with a direct connection to your device bypassing the battery, you won't have to worry about losing power and therefore your tunes just when the guitar solo was really getting going. With an integrated mic and full controls on the ear cups, the Scosche RH1060s won't even slow you down when you get a phone call.
