That isn't to say the Profile line is brand new (although it is being expanded), but the speakers are ostensibly invisible, being in ceiling and in wall models. New to the lineup are the Profile A6 in ceiling speaker, the Profile Cinema Sub10 subwoofer, and the Profile AIM8 DT Three, which SpeakerCraft refers to as a single point stereo in ceiling speaker. Read on to see what we think of these new additions.

Triad InWall Bronze/4 SlimSub Preview

If you are looking for a quality in-wall sub, your options aren't extensive and they aren't cheap. At $1400 a pop, the Triad InWall Bronze/4 SlimSub is promising extension down to around the 25Hz mark from an enclosure that is only 4" deep. That means that not only will the Triad InWall Bronze/4 SlimSub fit in a new construction, but it can be retrofitted into an existing wall without much problem. With Triad's grille matching program promising you a perfect match to your wall color, a DSP amplifier with integrated room correction and the Triad name behind it, the InWall Bronze/4 SlimSub is sure to sell.

B&W AM-1 Outdoor Loudspeaker Preview

One of the quickest ways to make enemies in a neighborhood is to install outdoors speakers. You might like to serenade your significant other under the moonlight with some Kenny G, or rock out with Rage Against The Machine cranked to 11 (who doesn’t love Renegades of Funk?) but, that doesn’t mean your neighbors enjoy the same eclectic musical genres, especially between the hours or midnight and five in the morning. Well, Bowers & Wilkins wants to help destroy the fragile fabric that holds your neighborhood together with their new AM-1 outdoor speaker. Featuring a 1” tweeter, 5” bass driver with passive radiator, and an innovative mounting system, the B&W AM-1 will help you burn bridges in style.

Wisdom Audio Insight Series InWall Speakers Preview

The Wisdom Audio Insight Series speakers are designed for the high end market using their planar magnetic driver technology. Their speakers typically require biampification and external crossovers. Now they've changed all that, making things simpler and introducing a new line of speakers for CEDIA 2012. This is going to be great for custom installers. So now, with the new Insight Series, everyone can jump in and get that great Wisdom Audio sound - the new speakers son't need to be beamed and the crossovers are built right in.

Niles GeoRealistic Pro Series Rock and Planter Speakers Preview

Audio companies love to throw around the word "audiophile" like it is a statement of quality and performance. But we have a hard time believing any speaker shaped like a rock or a planter is really designed to satisfy discerning audiophiles. Instead, they are designed to sound as good as possible considering their shape, size, location, and weatherproofing requirements. Niles has been a big name in custom installation for a long time so perhaps they don't feel the need to tell us much about their new GeoRealistic Pro Series Rock and Planter Speakers other than that they exist and their shape and finishes. But for us to get truly excited about them, we need to know a little more. Like the size of the tweeters, the composition of the drivers, the frequency response, the impedance, the shape and weight, the power handling, the price, and much more. See your customer installer for these details as they can't be found anywhere on the Niles website yet even though the speakers are already shipping.

Tannoy OCV 6 Architectural Pendant Speaker Review

Getting sound into commercial spaces isn't as easy as it sounds. Not everyone utilizes a drop ceiling. In fact, not everyone has a ceiling that even remotely resembles a flat surface. Tannoy recognized this, particularly in light of the new wave of architectural design sweeping our airports, churches, malls and other social, transportation and retail gathering areas. The OCV Series of speakers are designed to look like a pendent that is suspended, near-invisibly, from the ceiling in order to cast sound down from above without requiring a flat or recessed installation. The speakers are very nearly a piece of art themselves and are available in either a 6" or 8" coaxial configuration.

Paradigm Designer Series In-Ceiling Speakers Preview

Those of us that have not only a need for in-ceiling speakers, but a desire for something that has been designed to sound as good as possible, the new Designer Series In-Ceiling speakers from Paradigm are enticing. Looking at the improvements they've made in the different lines, it is clear that they are thinking about the specific use of the speaker (from the improved output and clarity of the top of the line Guided Soundfield Models to the improved performance and longevity under any condition of the Marine Models). Add to that the overall improvement of the Designer's Series ability to go unnoticed with their smaller bezel and Paradigm is really trying to give you what you want.

Niles CM4PR Compact In-Ceiling 4" Speakers Preview

We reviewed hands-on the new CM Series Ceiling Mount Loudspeakers from Niles and found them to be excellent - both in quality and ease-of-installation. Rather than simply update over time, Niles continues to innovate, and their latest model was revealed this week at the Hilton. It's the compact CM4PR. The CM4PR is the company’s first-ever compact ceiling mount loudspeaker and it comes with only a four-inch footprint. It's Niles' first small, designer-friendly loudspeaker to deliver its signature audiophile grade performance while being able to locate itself in aesthetically pleasing, unobtrusive areas.

Boston Acoustics Voyager Outdoor Speakers Preview

Earlier this year we did a video review of the Boston Acoustics Voyager 7 Outdoor Speakers and found them to be excellent in both sound and design. The company didn't waste any time in releasing 5 brand new models in the Voyager Series and these are also geared towards the Indoor/Outdoor/Marine crowd/ The new speakers weren't part of our recent 2011 CEDIA Expo Show Coverage, but that's because nobody from D&M was there that we could find (Denon, Marantz, Boston Acoustics, etc). The good news is that these new speakers will be ready for release in September and include the same great products as before, but with updated model numbers (40/50/60/70/Metro II).

Niles CM Architectural Loudspeakers Preview

Niles has introduced a new line of cost-effective ceiling mount loudspeakers featuring the same unique combination of design aesthetics, advanced technology and installation versatility found in the company's 3rd generation DS Directed Soundfield Ceiling-Mount Loudspeakers. The Bowers & Wilkins ISW-3 sub can be placed in a wall, floor, ceiling or even installed in a cabinet in your kitchen. The ISW-3 has a small (2" by 12"), slotted grille that looks like an HVAC vent, dual 6.5" Paper/Kevlar cone long-throw drivers in a balanced design eliminating transmission of vibrations through the enclosure and into the surrounding walls, and a -3dB point in the mid-20's. With the external amp, the setup will run you $2k. The performance promises to be more than good enough for distributed audio or perhaps even as rear speakers in a surround sound setup. With an affordable price tag and the B&W name, these are sure to be winners. Of course, when a company is known for quality high-end audio, it's are usually NOT known for low-cost offerings. Integrating audio into both new construction as well as existing homes has become common, and for this article we will take a look at KEF's custom installation Ci Series in-ceiling speakers. Our project home consists of a dining room, kitchen/breakfast room, great room, dining room, master bedroom, master bathroom and back porch. After a few discussions with one of KEF's product line reps, we decided on several different models for each room or "zone" of the house. The home we installed the speakers in had very easy access to the attic above each room, making installation a pretty straightforward process for this project. The back porch does not have ceiling access, so we opted for a pair of bracket-mounted Ventura 6 weatherproof speakers.

Boston Acoustics Voyager 7 Outdoor Speakers Review

Everybody seems to like speakers. I personally obsess about them. Maybe there are speakers better than mine. If so, I have to find them. But what about outdoor speakers? Nobody seems to take into consideration good sound when you're in your backyard grilling or throwing a Super Bowl party. Well we do... well, I do... and when it came time to review the Boston Acoustics Voyager 7 outdoor speakers - I had just the spot. Up until these I had been running planter speakers - those are speakers that are cleverly hidden underneath a planter. Great product - different review. In any case, the emphasis with those was on style. With THESE speakers, Boston Acoustics is all about quality. I mean these are the largest outdoor speakers in their Voyager line. The Voyager 7s have an exceptional bass response for a bookshelf speaker and they are more than just the typical boom and sizzle solution, I mean they truly sound well-balanced. There seemed to be a tad of emphasis around the lower mid-range, but it was pleasing to the ears. When played loud, the tweeters aren't terribly fatiguing and they really project into a wider area, so these speakers are perfect for that backyard party.

KEF Ci In-Ceiling Speakers First Look

The new Ci line from KEF looks to be just what the doctor ordered for distributed audio. You have speakers that can dip down fairly low (into the mid-thirties if the specs are to be believed) with a focus on not only invisibility (with an ultra-thin bezel) but on high end extension. The price of the line can be as low at $180 a pop but most of the offerings cross the $200 mark with the top of the line at $350. The fact is that if anyone knows coaxial speakers, it is KEF. Chances are these are going to sound pretty good. If you are looking for some speakers for your living room or bathroom, give these a listen when they ship soon.

SnapAV Episode 900 Series In-Wall Loudspeakers First Look

Are the new SnapAV Episode 900 speakers designed for the custom installation market? You bet. But we love seeing features such as overbuilt back boxes, separate EQ adjustments for bass, mids, and the tweeter with a compensation for perforated drop screens, and ribbon tweeters. The EX-HT900-ISLCR-6 is a little too wide for horizontal placement without cutting in to a couple of studs but other than that, we love how both this and the ES-HT950-IW-7 look on paper. But, as is often the case with in-wall speakers, only you'll know how cool they are. Everyone else will wonder where that sound is coming from.

Paradigm Reference Millenia LP On-Wall Speakers Preview

Paradigm Electronics Inc. used CES to introduce a new speaker to its Paradigm Reference series with the Millenia LP on-wall LCR speaker. They are rated down to 65Hz with dual 0.75-inch polypropylene tweeters mated with a 5.25-inch injection molded polypropylene woofer. All the drivers are angled 20 degrees up to account for the inevitable ground placement. The AudioRock is constructed out of a UV-protected, weatherproof, and rustproof plastic with a gray faux-granite finish. Designed to be buried in your yard, the only evidence you'll see of it is a small tube protruding from a flowerbed. While pricing hasn't been announced yet, SpeakerCraft's rock shaped sub retails for just under a grand. It has (most likely) the same amp but a smaller driver and a more complicated enclosure. We'd expect similar pricing here. While this is a niche product for sure, the fact is that it will probably sell. While we like to snicker at the design, it is pretty innovative. Wisdom Audio has 11 different speaker offerings nearly all of which incorporate planar magnetic and traditional transducer types. They shared many of the sonic virtues of my larger floorstander reference speakers and their performance absolutely bellied their asking price. As I listened, over and over I kept forgetting that these were small indoor/outdoor speakers and kept thinking they sounded better than some speakers I’ve reviewed from more prestigious brands costing several thousands of dollars. The MC-6AW’s can be used in multiple environments. They would be great mounted on the wall next to an on-wall television in either a bedroom or a family room. You could also class up your pool parties by using them on your pool deck or any patio. Just be careful not to make your audiophile friends too envious when they hear such great sound outdoors which ordinarily wouldn’t seem possible.

Aperion Audio Intimus 6-LCR In-Wall Speakers

As displays are getting thinner and thinner, consumers are demanding speakers that match. What matches a flat panel hung on a wall better than a few in-wall speakers installed around it? Aperion Audio has heard the call and has introduced a new in-wall speaker dubbed the Intimus 6-LCR. With a 2.5 way MTM design, the 6-LCR is designed for either vertical or horizontal placement making it perfect for either main or center channel duty.

Sonance Invisible Speaker Series

Sonance has long held a prominent position in the architectural, in-wall and in-ceiling speaker marketplace. Now, the company has released their latest innovative variation - the Invisible Speaker Series. The flat-panel driver technology developed by Sonance is featured in three new models, two of which utilize improved planar technology. The Sonance Invisible Series speakers are entirely flat and vanish into the room design, delivering "invisible" ambient music that emanates from the walls and ceilings.

The Speaker Company NTIW26 and NTIW25 In-wall Speakers

At $300 a pair for the NTIW26s and $230 a pair for the NTIW25s, these speakers are a remarkable value. Quality components, easy to mount, lots of tuning options… the list of benefits goes on. Sonically, they at least met and in many ways exceeded my expectations. Bass was admirable for a bookshelf, much less an in-wall. The highs and mids were well-realized and very lifelike. The NT speakers definitely live up to the tSc motto - Quality Loudspeakers at Half the Price.

Ethereal Home Theater VIBE Speakers

Over at the Ethereal booth, we were surprised to find speakers. The grills (pictured bottom) had artsy pictures on them but we're not sure if this was available or just for CES. According to Ethereal (who is simply distributing the VIBE speakers), the VIBE Home Cinema’s Monolith Shuttle 1 and Shuttle 2 are fabricated from resin and finished in high gloss piano black paintwork. They seem to be a very installer-friendly line of speakers. The larger size actually works well with the idea that pictures can be printed on the grills and we hope this is a standard feature.

Pioneer Elite Architectural Speaker Line

Pioneer’s Chief Speaker Designer Andrew Jones and his engineering team drew inspiration from the company’s professional TAD speaker offering to design the Pioneer Elite series of architectural speakers. By improving off-axis performance and a more accurate frequency response, Pioneer’s new Elite speakers surpass the capabilities offered by current pivoting driver designs.

RBH "Reference" Signature In-Walls

We have long appreciated the quality of RBH Sound offerings here at Audioholics. While we love our freestanding speakers, it is clear that the market for in-wall speakers is an important one and growing. The References line of Signature speakers from RBH has long been without an in-wall counterpart - no more. Starting at just under $1000 and running up to $3300 each, these are definitely a higher end offering. But given our experience with RBH Sound, they are likely worth every penny plus some.

Soundcast OutCast Wireless Battery-Powered Outdoor Speaker

What do you do if you want sound in many different rooms of your house or outside but don't have the time or money to spend on wiring up all those speakers, extra amps, and source components? It is based on their Mentor series speakers and are a low profile box speaker system that simply hang from the wall like a picture frame with a mounting hole at the top and bottom of the cabinet.
