Status Acoustics Decimo Review

Speaker companies are a dime a dozen these days in a market flooded with gimmicky products that claim improved fidelity via unverifiable audio tweaks or using exotic cables to achieve their full potential. It is a rarity to find a company that doesn't give into these tactics to market a substandard product. Instead Status Acoustics took the high road by building these no nonsense speakers with some of the finest components available making them to this day a benchmark product unrivaled in performance.

Emotiva ER 5.0 Speaker System Review

Emotiva, the maker of affordable amps and processors, has stepped into the speaker world in a big way. With the help of the famous loudspeaker designer Vance Dickason, they have put together a 5.0 package at a price that seems almost too good to be true. These speakers sound great, the dipole surrounds are amazing, and the boundary and tweeter adjustments mean that they'll fit almost any room. The downside? Just look at them…

Pro Review: Edifier E3350 2.1 Desktop Speakers
by Aaron Howard — last modified July 03, 2008 05:05
The impossible; that's what motivates me. In fact, isn't that what motivates all of humanity? The first astronaut in space, an electric powered car, the telephone, the atomic bomb. There are so many examples of people achieving what was once thought the impossible. Our personal impossible achievements may not be on the same level as the printing press, but still the impossible is what drives us. When reviewing the E3350 system by Edifier, I wondered if they set out to achieve the impossible. Did they ask themselves, "Can we make a sound system that is both an audio and visual piece of entertainment? Can our sound system also be its own art collection?" I believe that these questions drove the design of the E3350.

To call the Sierra Sound iN Studio 5.0 speaker system an iPod speaker system would be to miss the point entirely. This is a very well-built, great looking pair of bookshelf speakers that happen to be powered, and also have a built-in iPod dock on top. After living with these speakers in variety of locations around my home and office for several weeks, I found plenty to write about.

The Creative GigaWorks T40 speaker system is a great solution for people looking for an upgrade to the lousy stock speakers that came with their PC. With a street price of around $125 in many places, the GigaWorks T40 speakers deliver great sound without taking up too much space on your desktop.

What do you do if you want sound in many different rooms of your house or outside but don't have the time or money to spend on wiring up all those speakers, extra amps, and source components? Get yourself a wireless speaker with a great range and sound quality. But where? Soundcast Systems hopes to answer that question for you with their OutCast Wireless System. We found it to have great range (matching or exceeding their claims of 150') and better than expected sound quality. It may be pricy but for that you get convenience, portability, and a solution that will take minutes rather than days to complete.

Axiom Audio announced a new Millennia "Garage" speaker, which is a version of their popular M3 v2 speaker. Could the MB Quart Alexxa B-One speakers be manufactured in Hades? I ask this because, as I am sure you know, the devil is in the details. And detail is what these speakers are all about. They present a very detailed reproduction of music, and there is also great detail in the fit and finish. But fear not, I will not be forced to consider damnation after all, as the Alexxas are not the handiwork of Beelzebub, but rather that of a storied team of engineers in Germany. (But they are one hell of a pair of bookshelf speakers.)

Pro Review: EMP Tek EF50T Speaker System Review
by Tom Andry — last modified May 01, 2008 09:05
While the EMP EF50 speaker system does sacrifice a bit of performance at the altar of aesthetics, it is very little performance for a whole lot of aesthetic gain. The tiny sub belies its performance and impact and the surround speakers sound too good to be surrounds. The removable faceplates may be a bit gimmicky, but it's a good gimmick. If this is your first foray into home theater and you want to do it right this is the set for you.

Pro Review: Sunfire HRS-12 Powered Subwoofer Review
by David Waratuke — last modified March 24, 2008 07:45
To get good monster bass, usually some fairly mongo subs are required. It is rare to find a sub this small that can not only provide copious bass output, but also can provide deep and accurate bass output as well. While not cheap by some standards, the HRS-12 subwoofers do an excellent job balancing the design and providing outstanding performance without skyrocketing the price. . Considering that the HRS-12s can easily provide better than two thirds of the performance of subs like the Fathoms at a mere one third of the price, the HRS-12s are a well engineered, high value product that represents a very good bargain for anyone looking for extreme levels of bass performance at less than extreme prices.

Gear Corner: Klipsch Image Earphones Review
by J. Walker Clarke, Jr. — last modified February 26, 2008 02:21
The Klipsch Image earphones are proported to be the "world's smallest high performance earphones," and there is no doubt that they are unlike anything I have seen. I remember seeing them at CEDIA last year and thinking that they would probably be yet another overpriced, mediocre sounding earbud for the iPod. Recently Klipsch sent me a pair and I have been using the Image earphones for a couple of months now, and I am pleased to tell you that I had it all wrong.
