SolidDrive

Induction Dynamics unveiled its second generation SolidDrive sound producer at CEDIA 2007.  If you are not familiar with the SolidDrive, it is a powerful sound transducer that transmits acoustical energy through almost any solid surface. The entire surface with which SolidDrive comes in contact becomes a speaker, delivering high-quality sound and the frequency response of conventional diaphragm speakers.  It is a really cool product, that lets you turn any wall, for instance, into a speaker with nothing showing.  The sound quality is not bad, considering.

New SolidDrive technology from Induction Dynamics transforms common building materials such as drywall, glass and wood into high quality sound sources without the design challenge of traditional speaker placement. SolidDrive works on any rigid or semi-rigid surface, including walls, ceilings, floors, windows, mirrors, countertops, conference room tables and other furniture. Everything is hidden from view; there are no grilles, no visible wires and no speakers.

SolidDrive is patented technology using very high-powered neodymium magnets and dual symmetrically opposed motors to convert audio signals into powerful vibrations. Those vibrations are transferred into solid surfaces through direct contact. High-quality, full-range sound is then radiated from the entire surface with a frequency response of 60 Hz to 15 kHz.

This second-generation SolidDrive provides a greater level of clarity and much deeper bass than its predecessor, achieved with only one drive cylinder per channel to make installation extremely easy. And now, for the first time, audio system placement can be determined without altering a room’s décor. SolidDrive blends seamlessly into any room’s environment.
