InFocus Projectors for 2006

A quick bus ride to a secret location and Audioholics' own Ray Adkins was primed and ready to get a secret sneak peak of the upcoming projector line-up from Infocus. After signing a non-disclosure agreement Ray was able to see the goods. Unfortunately we cannot share any photos with you due to the agreement but can give you a description of what he saw.

Infocus will totally revamp its ScreenPlay line from top to bottom. The Infocus 4805 will be replaced with a new version with the same resolution 854 x 480 code named "T-1 Triton". Gone is the boxy business class enclosure - now replaced with an elegant curved case that is gloss black and silver. A new ventilation system makes this projector ultra quiet and minimizes light leakage. There are also additional inputs (including HDMI), a center mounted lens, and Faroudja processing to round out the significant changes.

The short demo clip of Flight of the Phoenix looked absolutely amazing. Having had the Infocus 4805 in one of my home theaters, I am pleased to tell you that this new projector is a substantial upgrade in picture quality. Shipping is said to begin spring 2006.

Infocus also demonstrated their updated top of the line three-chip DLP projector The significant news about this projector is that the price has now been dropped to $14,999, including the lens assembly, making this the least expensive three-chip DLP currently shipping.

Infocus indicated that they have plans to introduce a new 1280x720 LCD projector, 1024x576 projector, 1280x720 DLP projector and a new 1920x1080p projector with two lens options - all featuring the new case design and Faroudja processing. The new projectors are scheduled to start shipping early next year.
