GoVideo HH8040 DVR

During Day 2 of CES 2004, we made a quick trip to GoVideo.  GoVideo unveiled an interesting co-branding with TCL, one of the largest manufacturers of diaplys in China. I suspect we'll be seeing lots of new items from GoVideo this year, including rear-projection DLPs, plasma displays and LCD monitors (some of which are already branded with the GoVideo name. One product that drew lots of attention is the HH8040, a consumer-geared device which records 40 hours of television programming and can then transfer up to 20 hours of material to the included ShowPort™ removable/exchangeable mini player. The main DVR unit has coax and s-video outputs, the ShowPort sporting a DC adapter port and A/V cable port. The removable unit, when connected to an other display device has its own on-screen menu system allowing selection and playback of recorded material. While it's not a high-end consumer device, it does present a unique solution to file sharing and portable video and shows the type of consumer innovation that GoVideo has been known for.
