Faroudja FLI10620 Announced

SANTA CLARA, Calif. & CHIBA, Japan - Genesis® Microchip Inc., a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for flat-panel TVs, monitors, and other consumer display products, today announced the launch of "Douglas" (FLI10620), its third generation HDTV system-on-a-chip family which will be demonstrated at the 2007 International CEATEC tradeshow in Chiba, Japan. This new product series, with superior 10-bit video quality processing, picture-in-picture channel processing, dual HDMI/HDCP 1.3a inputs, improved 3D Y/C TV decoder, and full DVB-T support, is currently sampling to tier-one HDTV manufacturers worldwide. The combination of high system integration, reliability and a rich feature-set that incorporates support for all flat-panel display resolutions including full HD/1080p with the most advanced Faroudja video processing establishes a new bar for flat-panel displays.

The Douglas IC family delivers a complete turnkey reference design for the worldwide DTV market and has been fully qualified with a comprehensive range of tuners, demodulators, and flat-panel timing controllers. Douglas leverages the majority of its IC and software modules from existing field-proven Genesis products. The solution offers a complete, highly customizable system software suite, including an easy-to-use graphical user interface with an electronic program guide and field-proven, feature-rich DVB-T/MHEG-5/ATSC/China DTV middleware stacks with support for CableCARD and Common Interface conditional access. This integrated approach allows consumer electronics manufacturers to achieve lower overall product development costs and an accelerated time-to-market.

“With the successful introduction of the Douglas chip and its additional features and increased integration, Genesis is well-positioned for growth in this exciting category,” said Ross Young, founder and president of DisplaySearch, an NPD Group Company. “In particular, we believe the company is better positioned to capture the 1080p market, which we forecast to grow at a 53 percent CAGR to 58 million units in 2011.”

“By elevating the video processing quality to the next level, Genesis enables top tier OEMs to deliver highly differentiated mainstream HDTV platforms that provide a fully immersive home theater experience. In addition, Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) can leverage the pre-certified Douglas turnkey designs to rapidly deploy solutions to popular brands worldwide,” said Graham Loveridge, vice president of TV marketing at Genesis Microchip. “In essence, Douglas brings previously high-priced, premium quality DTVs to the market at an attractive system BOM cost.”

The Douglas ICs support full 1080p input. The FLI10620 “Douglas-Advanced” solution enables 1080p output, and the pin-compatible FLI10610 “Douglas-Plus” enables WSXGA+ output. Douglas features advanced video processing such as Faroudja DCDi Cinema® with per-pixel motion-adaptive de-interlacing, sharpness enhancement, noise reduction, Faroudja TrueLife Video Enhancer, and Faroudja RealColor® processing for advanced color management and contrast control.

The Douglas IC family is sampling now with volume production expected to commence by calendar Q1 2008.
