Crazy 5.1 Speaker System Deal

EMP HTP-351-5-1-Speaker-System

EMP HTP-351-5-1-Speaker-System

Sometimes we come across a deal that just makes us shake our heads. We've reviewed a number of pieces of EMP gear over the years and have consistently been impressed with their sound and build quality. For some reason, someone over there misplaced a decimal or forgot to carry a 1 because their HTP-351-5-1-speaker-system package is on sale for $489. This is a package that normally retails for over $1300! Crazy? I'd say so.You know it has to be a mistake or something as a pair of the EF30 speakers retails at the same store for $320!

We don't have a dedicated review of this speaker system to point you to but we have reviewed most of the parts in other reviews. The E10 subwoofer was part of our EF50 review and did very well. The E30's are essentially the same as the TK-5Cs that we reviewed a while back which were also well regarded. Heck, the TK's rated a 4 for value at $500 a pair! The only piece we're missing is the center which we've heard and liked (in fact, I run the RBH version in my home theater currently) but have never formally been reviewed. This system would be a deal at twice the price. We're not sure why they decided to sell it so low but if you're on the market, seriously consider this system.

Check out the deal

EF50 review (includes the E10 sub)

TK-5C review (essentially the same speaker as the EF30)

There is an old saying, "you get what you pay for". Of course, every adult knows that it is false, as they have been cheated before, and they have gotten good deals before. But even though they know it is false from their own experience, many people believe it anyway. Yes, that is extremely stupid, but it is so common that I am not so sure that the word "freakishly" is right in connection with this.

If extreme stupidity were rare, there would be no significant market for magic wires and other voodoo nonsense in audio, and we all know that there is plenty of nonsense in the audio business. I am sure some idiot will, instead of upgrading their speakers, spend the same amount (or more) on magic wires to use with their current setup.

What magic wires do you suggest. I want to be able to use my speaker wires for everything.

Whelp, good luck with this sale - you'll need it!

I've been recommending EMP speakers to some folks - when the size, aesthetics and sound characteristics make them an ideal choice for a particular room - and no one has heeded my advice so far!

People are freakishly stupid - they see these ridiculous deals that the Audioholics Store is running on EMP speaker packages (basically around 1/3 of the retail price) and instead of jumping at the opportunity, people figure there must be something wrong with EMP speakers: "why else would they be discounted so much, right?"

Yup...

There is something wrong with these speakers.

They are tempting me to check them out and go without food this month.

I would love to open one up to see how well built it is.
