  • First Impression: Gotta Have It!

PSB Loudspeakers unveiled their very first set of headphones called the M4U 2 (MSRP $400; available Fall 2011).  I'm not really getting the model name for these cans but our short experience with them thus far has been quite memorable.

The M4U 2 features internal amplification and active noise-canceling which can be defeated with a flip of the switch.  The PSB M4U 2 headphones are said to run easily on battery power yet the user has the option to run them passive without the use of batteries.

I took these babies for a test ride at CEDIA and found not only did they sound fantastic but they were very comfortable to wear.  In fact, to date, I never heard a pair of noise-cancelling headphones I could live with until I heard the PSB's.  The headphones had plenty of rich bass and they did a bang up job of cutting down show noise floor while still remaining musical.

The ear pads are oval shaped with reinforced padding towards the rear for added wear comfort. Other features of the M4U 2 are a tangle-free cord and gyro-suspended ear pads. Easy folding for travel and storage, the PSB headphone comes standard with a semi-hard travel case.

Can you tell we are eager to dive into a detailed review of these cans in our own familiar room setting?  If not, let me just say it frankly.  WE WANT THESE!

Here is a feature list of the PSB M4U 2

• Built-in amplifier.

• Active noise control.

• Tangle-free cord.

• Unique dual input connection (left or right).

• Runs easily on battery power.

• Works in passive mode without batteries or power.

• Gyro-suspended ear pads.

• Easy folding for travel and storage.
