Panasonic ONYX XVS Series Plasma Displays

Panasonic has developed a new, high-performance series of plasma televisions that couples the company's most advanced flat-panel display technology with a bold new concept in home theater design. Panasonic is the best-known brand of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. With their striking, minimalist designs and perfectly flat screens, the new Onyx XVS series plasma sets seem to project images in mid-air, making the Onyx XVS experience a dramatic departure from conventional television.

"The entire front panel is masked by a single pane of glass, with no exposed hardware," explains Ed Wolff, Vice President of Panasonic's Display Group. "When the image appears, the frame seems to disappear. All you see are crisp, clear, deep images that seem to float in air."

Brilliant in every aspect, from its imaginative design to its cutting-edge technology, the new Onyx XVS series provides an extraordinary entertainment experience.

The sophisticated Onyx XVS series incorporates Panasonic's most advanced display technology to provide a razor-sharp, breathtakingly brilliant picture: a new Super Real Gamma System steps up gradation to darker parts of an image, up to an astounding 2,048 shades, and provides richly saturated color to reproduce intricate details; a new Color Purity Optimizer corrects color in a 3-dimensional color matrix, adjusting hue and brightness independently, providing amazingly realistic color fidelity; a Sub-Pixel Controller refines images by correcting contours at the single cell level. This process improves precision control by 3 times compared with conventional systems. And, a newly-developed motion pattern noise reduction technology dramatically enhances image quality.

The Onyx XVS plasma television is offered in 42-inch, 50-inch and 65-inch screen sizes (diagonal screen measurement), each at less than 4 inches in depth. An accompanying multimedia receiver has been designed as a separate component, so as not to detract from the display's elegant aesthetics. The receiver features Panasonic's Digital Access Pack: a group of features that together offer everything needed to enjoy high-definition and digital cable television, exceptional home theater DVD, digital photo albums and more.

The Digital Access Pack consists of:

  • NTSC, ATSC and QAM tuners
  • A built-in CableCARD(tm) slot. With an optional CableCARD, users can receive digital and analog cable programming, HD (High Definition) programming, and premium cable channels where available, without having to connect to a separate cable box.
  • HDMI (High Definition and Multimedia Interface) input, a new standard digital connection between a digital television and host devices such as a set-top box, DVD player or A/V receiver, for exceptional video and audio quality. When connected to an HDMI-compatible DVD video player, the images can be up-converted to 720p or 1080i output, a much higher resolution than achieved with conventional 480p component video signals.
  • Photo Viewer, along with SD Memory Card and PCMCIA Card slots, allows for large-screen viewing of DCF-compliant JPG still photos taken by a digital camera and stored on an SD Memory Card or PCMCIA Card.

"With its innovative, stunning design and brilliant technology, the Onyx XVS series achieves an overall performance that redefines plasma television," Wolff said.
