Reference System 3: Tom Andry

Reference System 3

Reference System 3

Main features include RBH front and center channels with back and surround back duties handled by Emotiva's highly acclaimed ERD-1s. Of course the Axiom EP500 subwoofer - one of the nicer subwoofers we've measured to date - fills out the bottom end nicely. A Squeezebox Duet server allows for audio streaming from computers and the Internet. Recent additions include Emotiva Audio's RSP-1, RPA-1, and Denon's DVD-3910 for testing high end speakers and Seymour AV's Ice Block Amplifies for powering the mains. Salk Sound's SongTower QWTs have given Tom an exception pair of speakers to use when comparing midpriced speakers (for those that consider $1500 to $2000 a pair "midpriced"). In the future components in this system are likely to be somewhat "fluid" as Tom heads up many flat panel, speaker, and Media Center PC reviews. The room has recently been converted to a front projection system with Da-Lite universal mount and screen. Reference projector has not be determined yet.
