9 — What is the question to life, the universe, and everything?

by December 11, 2006

The thump of an exploding nuclear powerstation? I love it! It reminds me of the subtle difference between a love tap and murder with a blunt instrument. ^_^

If it's OK, lets go ahead and make the pics 128x128 max. I think we'll benefit from some more "signage" on our news. We'd also like to add a bit more white space, how about this (see mockup pic here):

I've modified the Home Page view template to reflect the new picture size, Title and by-line to appear first, followed by image (left) and abstract text (right), with "Read More" link below. This is just for the home Page template.

Can we also need to do this for the other sections? I was in the Education area and noticed that it still had the text starting right after the date and was unbolded.

I've modified the Feature Section template to also reflect these changes. Feature Section templates are now nearly identical to the Home Page template, except that they include a folder contents section at the very bottom.

Can we set up a method whereby a subscriber can hit a "Print to PDF" button/icon and the entire review (all subsequent pages included) can print to a PDF with our logo either at the top or (even better) at top of each page? Seems like this could be done with a template or separate style sheet arrangement.

Yes.  We'll just need to create a new template that gathers all the pages together and passes them onto PDF. (plone.org does this itself on multi-page tutorials with a link that reads "all content on one page).  Not difficult at all.

haha, it bumps the entire word "logout" to a new (third) line. This is SO not significant right now. :-)

OK, one other fix: click here.

New Stuff

Can we possibly have the Performance Rating and Value Rating (from the first page of reviews) show up at the bottom of the Conclusion page (perhaps bolded to make it stand out from the rest of the stars)? Currently the main review scoring summary is only on the first page.

Sure. One problem, though: performance and value ratings allow half-star ratings. Should those be modified to just whole stars?

Can we have Editorials be "multi-pagable"? Many (most?) of our Editorials are longish and would require the ability to be turned into multiple page items.

OK, class "Editorial" now subclasses from "AHMultiPageFeature" instead of "ATNewsItem".  It behaves essentially like a "Technical Article" now.

On Audioholics Pages (in reviews, etc) is there any way we can insert some space so that the first line of text starts underneath the navigation dropdown at the top of the page? We seem to frequently wrap around this and generally squish the first page header or images.

Added a "visual clear" underneath the navigation.

Pagination - Moving Pages more than 1 position at a time

When viewing the folder contents of an item (the tabular view), you don't have to use the up/down triangles. Those are provided for users of older browsers. If you want to re-order the contents of a folder, just drag and drop!

You do have to be a little careful where you drag. If you happen to click your mouse right on the title of a page, your browser will navigate to that page. What I do is aim for the white space just to the right of the title; click and hold the left button, drag it to where I want, and release. That's it! No multiple clicking required.

This works with Safari 2 and Firefox 1.5 (on a Mac); it's supposed to work on Windows as well.

Is there any way to upload multiple pics into a review/article folder?

Yes, you can mount the entire Plone web site using the WebDAV protocol. This lets your site be a Volume (on Mac), a mount point (on Linux), or a share (on Windows). You can then just use drag-and-drop as if it were a local filesystem. Note that Windows's support for WebDAV is incomplete. You'll need an external program such as WebDrive, NetDrive, or Enfold Desktop. Check out this article for more details.

We can also enable ftp. You can then add photos using an ftp client.

Bugs

ad_160X1600 error.

Already fixed. Adding a blog re-set the portlets to include the one 160-by-600 ad as well as the blog's portlets; however, after adding the blog product we made two 160-by-600 portlets but the blog wasn't updated. Yours and Tom's existing blogs should work just fine now.

The Case of the Invisible Content

You got me fair-and-square on that one. The "Feature Section" type was showing only "Technical Article" and "Product Review". I've added to its list: "Editorial", "Daily News", and "Press Release".

Floating Blue Bar

What a wonderful world it would be if all browsers interpreted CSS identically.  I think it's fixed now.

Slight overhang of logo in IE7

Fixed.

Image Editing with IE7

This seems to be some limitations with the WYSIWYG editor included with Plone, called "Kupu". We're already on the bleeding edge with Kupu, though, running release 1.4beta2 (released October 2006). When beta3 or 1.4 final comes out, let's go with that one. In the meantime, please recommend Firefox to your writers.
